Dr. Shiana “Shi” Ferraro is a licensed Naturopathic Physician, acupuncture specialist, and a proud member of both the Connecticut Naturopathic Physician’s Association and Pediatric Association of Naturopathic Physicians. She earned her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) from the University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine (UBCNM), and her Master of Science in Acupuncture (MS), Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Bridgeport Acupuncture Institute. While in medical school, she also became certified as a placenta encapsulation specialist through the International Placenta and Postpartum Association. After working some years as a UBCNM Student Representative for Priority One Nutritional Supplements, she was later promoted to Sales and Product Consultant for the Northeast. Prior to entering medical school, Dr. Ferraro worked for years in healthcare as a Certified Medical Assistant for multiple types of practitioners, conducted research for Dr. Donielle Wilson’s book, The Stress Remedy, and earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a focus in pre-naturopathic medicine from the University of Bridgeport.
Dr. Ferraro considers the fields of naturopathic and traditional Chinese medicine to be her calling, with principles that align with her own beliefs and moral standards around medicine and healthy living. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with patients and making sure they receive the most individualized holistic treatments. Her areas of interest in practice include pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology/women’s health, mental/emotional health, neurological health, and all-things related to stress and the gut-brain axis. Therapeutic treatment modalities that Dr. Ferraro utilizes in practice include lifestyle and nutrition counseling, vitamins, minerals, botanicals, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, holistic counseling, and physical medicine. Acupuncture serves as one of multiple modalities Dr. Ferraro finds effective in practice and may recommend this treatment to her patients on an individual basis.
When she’s not working or reading up on the latest research, Dr. Ferraro likes to spend her free time staying active outdoors, hiking, tending to her plants, taking nature photos, making a mess in the kitchen and going out to concerts with her husband for date night. She also enjoys occasionally donating her hair to non-profit organizations who provide wigs for children in need.
